Level 1 Tree Risk Assessment (Limited Visual Assessment)

This is a rapid, high-level screening from a defined perspective (street, sidewalk, vehicle drive-by, or aerial/drone view). It is used for large tree populations or initial prioritization. It identifies only obvious defects or conditions of concern that are visible without a full 360° close inspection. No tools (except a drone if deemed necessary) or detailed measurements are required. 

If defects are found, a desicion can be made to move to a Level 2 assessment.

Level 2 Tree Risk Assessment (Basic Assessment)

This is a detailed 360° ground-based visual inspection of an individual tree and its site. Use simple tools (binoculars, mallet for sounding, probe, measuring tape). Synthesize data to evaluate likelihood of failure, likelihood of impact on targets, and consequences of failure using ISA risk matrices. Ideal for residential/commercial properties and insurance reports.
